Cycle and Directives
The following table elaborately describes the whole course and cycle for patients who undergo hair transplant. Each human body is different; so if your symptoms or cycle does not exactly match the below mentioned details, it is not at all a problem.
POST SURGERY DAYS | THE TRANSPLANTED AREA DIRECTIVES & CYCLE | THE DONOR AREA DIRECTIVES & CYCLE |
---|---|---|
1st Day after the Surgery | Do not shampoo, but wash your hair gently, yet thoroughly, so that the scalp is free of any blood. | Expect some soreness, tightness and possibly some numbness. |
Days 2-3 | Scabbing for the most part is gone by this time. Moderate redness may be there and some swelling may appear on the forehead. | Soreness in the donor area begins to disappear. Some numbness may continue. There is generally no uneasiness in the recipient area. |
Days 4-6 | If there is significant swelling, it may settle across the bridge of the nose and around the eyes and cheeks. | Any residual crusting on the donor area (only) can be removed directly with running water. |
End of Week 1 | Swelling usually has subsided by this time. Redness is either faint or absent. The hair transplants look and feel like a week-old beard. Patients are prescribed a follow up appointment at this time. | Soreness is generally gone. There is hardly any persistent numbness. |
Day 10 | Grafts are firmly in place. Any residual crusting may be gently scrubbed off. | |
End of Week 2 | The grafts are permanently in place and cannot be dislodged. The transplanted hair begins to shed off. Patients may return to normal shampooing, brushing and combing and may get haircuts. | |
End of Week 3 | The majority of the transplanted hair has been shed. | |
End of Month 1 | The follicles enter a resting phase and the usual looks reinstate. Patients may even dye their hair by this time. | |
Months 2-5 | The newly transplanted hairs start to grow as very fine hair initially, later on, gaining the pace and volume. | Any remaining numbness in the donor area is almost healed. |
Months 6-9 | The hair continues to grow and gain volume. Slight textural changes in hair can be experienced in some cases. | The donor area regains most of its strength. |
Month 10 | A follow up with the doctor/surgeon is again recommended – where the doctor may or may not suggest another appointment (depending on the check-up and the need). | Donor laxity has been restored. |
1 Year | The hair transplant treatment/surgery finally shows up prominent, appreciable results with a completely desirable look. | |
1-2 Years | There may be additional fullness. Any textural change in hair usually returns to normal. |
